Looks like stormy weather ahead for free places in nursery schools if the Tories win the UK general election. Polly Toynbee, a tireless campaigner for nursery schools, writes, "If only Labour had set up free nurseries attached to schools without the private sector trying to skim a profit" but of course they did not and that they did not demonstrates their attachment to the market ideology of neo-liberalism that has brought about the situation that now threatens the expansion in early years education and care that New Labour itself initiated.
