An interesting phenomenon is being observed in Australia, where the availability of extended-day childcare seems to be impacting kindergarten enrolments. A new (and unnecessarily artificial) care/education divide?

'A GROWING number of children are missing out on kindergarten — and a flying start to their education — because they are "trapped" in long-day child care.
Education experts say kindergarten offers the best start to schooling and best chance of future prosperity, but fewer child-care centres are offering kindergarten and the percentage of four-year-old children at kindergarten is dropping. [...]'
